MARKETS AND AUCTIONS

Morgan County Ohio has a variety of local farmers markets and auctions.  Find some of the freshest home grown vegetables around.  McConnelsville has a farmers market every Thursday.  Chesterhill has a produce auction every weekend.

There is a number of auction houses in the area. Be sure to check them out.  You never know what treasures may be waiting for you!

 

FISHING

The Muskingum River is the longest river lying wholly in Ohio. Ten dams help to create pools of consistent depth to aid in navigation. The tailwaters below any of these dams offer the best places to target the many available sportfish species. The most popular species caught here are Flathead catfish, Channel catfish, and Freshwater drum.

MORGAN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Morgan County Historical Society Museum is the central repository for the Society's collections. Opened in 2004, its main gallery houses thousands of artifacts and antiquities that tell the story of Morgan County, Ohio and its people. The Museum also houses the Society's genealogy collections, photographs, prints, and printed records.

JESSE OWENS STATE PARK - MINERS MEMORIAL

Jesse Owens State Park and Wildlife Area is a success story in environmental stewardship, conservation and reclaiming land for outdoor recreation. Activities include Primitive camping, hunting, fishing, boating, paddling, hiking, equine trails, and picnicking. Located on State Route 78 East of McConnelsville Ohio It is the home of the Miners Memorial and the Big Muskie Bucket.

WATERSPORTS

The unique history of the region is what sets Muskingum River apart from a number of other Ohio rivers. Treat yourself with Ohio’s 160-year old navigation system which is also a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. The 112-mile long Muskingum River, a tributary of the well-known Ohio River, offers fishing and boating pleasures for the campers. The river is also a great visual treat and can be accessed through several locks and dams. The river served as an essential trade route in the 19th century sealing the historical importance of this region forever. The best time to set up a camp is between April to October.

THE WILDS

The Wilds is a private, non-profit safari park and conservation center that combines cutting-edge conservation science and education programs with hands-on experiences and one-of-a-kind adventures that include ziplining, horseback riding, fishing and more. Located in Cumberland, Ohio, the Wilds is home to rare and endangered species from the globe living in natural, open-range habitats.

The property encompasses 9,154 acres (3,704 hectares) of reclaimed coal mine land and includes 2,000 acres (810 ha) of pastures and a 27-acre (11 ha) Carnivore Conservation Center. The Wilds is designated an Audubon Important Bird Area so the property includes a birding station with covered lookout as well as a butterfly habitat with hiking trails, more than 15 miles (24 km) of mountain bike and hiking trails and approximately 150 lakes.

The Wilds is the largest wildlife conservation center in North America and is open between the months of May and October.
